I bought this as I needed a slow-cooker with an auto function, which it has. My first use was for a sausage casserole with 4 sausages and veg, so only a small meal. After 8 hours of cooking the meal was still not ready and I had to then put it on the high setting for another 90minutes until it was sufficiently cooked. The ceramic(?) inner pot is really small compared to the outer casing and is not efficient at transferring the heat from the out to the cooking pot. The amount of heat being lost is really huge and highlights the bad design of the whole unit. If there was better insulation built in to the outer shell, and a smaller gap between outer and the inner pot, then it would be great. The outer gets so hot I actually nigh on burnt myself when I accidently touched the outer. I have a different one from another manufacturer and that is so highly efficient and doesn't get too hot on the outside. With the way things are going with huge rises in energy bills at the moment, along with global warming, Swann needs to look at this and redesign it. I'd be happy to pay more for better efficiency!
