Eterra EX-40 Heavy Duty Excavator Flail Mower Description
The Eterra EX-40 Excavator Flail Mower is built for roadsides, ditches, and other hard-to-reach areas, handling grass, brush, and trees up to 6 inches in diameter. Weighing 616 lbs, it features a Permco gear drive motor that delivers consistent torque and long-term reliability, preventing power loss or overheating during heavy use. The flail rotation speed of 1,900-2,300 RPM ensures a clean cut, while the electronically balanced cutting shaft reduces vibration and wear, keeping operation smooth and extending component life. Equipped with 20 heavy-duty Y-Knife flail blades, each weighing 2 ¼ lbs, the EX-40 cuts and mulches 4-5 inch material, with careful operation allowing for up to 6-inch material. The curved housing design directs material efficiently through the mower, preventing buildup and ensuring consistent mulching. AR400 skid shoes protect the frame when mowing at ground level, while a rubber vibration dampener absorbs impact to reduce strain on the machine and operator. With a tip speed of 12,743 feet per minute, the EX-40 is built for fast, efficient cutting in demanding environments.
Note:  Every excavator is different.  Many machines (Especially older models) use only two pumps.  One to control your stick and rotation.  One for track drive and auxiliary flow (your mower).  For machines that have this type of pump arrangement, it is not possible to drive the machine forward and cut at the same time.  You will need to drive forward, stop and then sweep back and forth for cutting.  For operators with newer machines like Kubota and any Yanmar, you have three pumps so you can drive and cut at the same time. We will definently buy more equipment from Skid Steer Solutions. Thanks again guys! Cameron Curlee Bosco Construction llc.

We haven't been able to use it. We haven't been able to locate a Wain Roy blank to mount the machine. Been very frustrating. Would have been beeter if there was a way to make bracket was sold and we could have mounted it. We cant tell you if the machine is good or bad.

They advertise that you can mulch up to 6" material but that is simply not true. I've have tried and after about 10 hours of work, over half the knives sheared off as well as damaged the flanges and bolts that hold them to the drum. Furthermore, I ordered mine with a thumb saddle, but it's worthless because there are only 2 half inch bolts holding the frame to the mount. As soon as I try to pick up even a small trunk that is well within the excavators lifting capacity, the bolts snap and flanges that hold the bolts twisted. This machine is simply not capable of what's advertised. You have to really baby it, or it fails because it is poorly built. Sure, it's balanced well and I can barely feel it running, but that is the only good thing to say about it. I have brought up the issue of the broken knives with customer support and they just blame me and my machine. They claim that without enough pressure and flow that it causes the knives to be damaged, which doesn't make any sense in the first place. In any case, I had my excavator tested and it is within the PSI and flow requirements so then they just turned to blaming me and the way I was operating it. Eterra needs to own up to the fact that these machines are not built strong enough for their purpose to run on an 8 ton machine.
