Promac HSM60 Heavy Duty Skid Steer Mulcher
Description
The Promac HSM Skid Steer Drum Mulcher is engineered for power, precision, and longevity. Driven by a hydraulic variable torque piston motor, it maintains consistent drum speed with the help of Promac’s Automatic Torque Controller (ATC), which reduces speed loss and improves acceleration for maximum productivity.
The drum is built for versatility, accepting multiple tooling options to handle different ground conditions. Its Chip Production Rotor, or “bite limiter” design, ensures controlled material sizing, while replaceable hardened wire cutters protect bearings and seals from damage. All holders and plates are made from high-strength steel for superior impact resistance and durability.
The fully welded, boxed-frame design keeps weight under 2,500 lbs while providing strength, stability, and a low profile for excellent operator visibility. A flat leading edge ensures controlled ground contact and leaves a clean mulched finish without excessive wear.
A bolt-in AR400 rear anvil improves performance and is replaceable in 12" sections, extending service life. Discharge Control keeps material within 5 feet of the machine, reducing cleanup and safety risks, while Motor Case Overpressure Protection safeguards the drive motor from costly failures.
Built tough and designed to perform, the HSM delivers reliable productivity and years of dependable service in the harshest conditions.
Tooling Options
Beaver (Quad Style) Teeth: This the most economical tooling option, as the beaver teeth are cheaper to replace. These teeth can be rotated to get the most life out of them, and are seen commonly throughout the industry. These teeth also take less of a bite than the chipper teeth and are therefore slightly less productive but great for maintaining drum speed on lower flow machines.
Chipper Teeth: These can be sharpened, reversed, and replaced easily. They are extremely efficient at mulching wood and last between 40-100 hours per side depending on conditions (They deteriorate quickly in rocky conditions).
Double Carbide Teeth: These teeth are not efficient at mulching and cannot be sharpened, but they are extremely tough, lasting up to 500 hrs and holding up much better in rocky conditions.
Combo Configurations: The outer teeth on the drum are generally more exposed to rocks and dirt, and do less actual mulching than the center of the drum. For this reason it is recommended that you choose a combo tooth configuration. You can choose either Chipper or Beaver teeth, and the outer 3 rows (12 total teeth) will be replaced with Double Carbide teeth for improved durability.
Hydraulic brake: A hydraulic delay that engages the brake after a 5 second delay.  The drum comes to a full stop in about 20 seconds (5 second delay + 10-15 seconds to stop).

We've put almost 100 hours on our promac head and have been pleased with the results. Paired with a 299d3, the head is slow to bog down and quick to recover. Mulching 3-5" trees is quick and complete with great chips produced with the knives.
