“I really like my Smith Payroll helmet, between the comfort, excellent coverage and light weight. I have peace of mind it will keep my head protected, which is why I don’t mind the high price tag. I have a ponytail and the rear support/adjustment system accommodates without any discomfort. The trail camp color looks sweet too!”
“It appears that Smith has decided to change up the straps on their helmets for 2024. What was adjustable, is now basically locked into a single length with zero adjustment. The Y portion of the straps have a minimally adjustable piece (you have to work the strap through like 6 holes to be able to move the piece slightly). . . mine broke within the first hour of use. This helmet is a newer model, but they changed the design/piece on other helmets as well. I replaced this one with the Forefront, and it's the same deal. That piece isn't adjustable, so if it touches your ear then you're stuck with a helmet that is going to annoy you the entire ride. I'll see if I can deal with it, but if not, then I'll need to try another brand. The simple slide adjustment that they were using previously allowed the Y portion of the strap to move up/down to fit a variety of heads/ears. . . this new design does not. It's great if it works for you, and if not then it's the most annoying thing ever. Also, don't bother trying to make a minuscule adjustment with it, because it will break. I'm happy they warrantied the broken one, but I ended up with a different model that comes with the same annoying design. The Payroll also didn't work that well with my sunglasses and pinched behind my ears (much better with the Forefront). I'd just like to say that they should fix the design (though, it seems quite a few helmet makes have also opted for these straps as well).”

“Pleased with this new design. The helmets Mips basket has thoughtful venting and the helmet overall is super stable and comfortable. I’ve had the Forefront and still have the Session as well. Still love the Session for XC/gravel rides, but with our hot weather here in Austin, TX I think the Payroll will be my go-to instead of the Forefront.”
