“It seems like whoever designed the layout of this bag wrote the design down but never tried it. The straps are awkward, and every internal pocket is long, but too shallow to have things stay in place. The shoe storage doesn't fit larger shoes without having to jam them in and hope the zipper doesn't break (I'm size 12 US). When wearing it as a backpack, the shoe storage is on top of the bag, which puts an awkward balance to the bag as the weight is on top.
On the plus side, there is quality construction and it's a good looking bag. But there has to be better bags for this price point.”

“Purchased this duffel bag before a bike trip with my kids. Zippers were smooth, straps were adequate, would buy again. And, much cheaper than the overpriced Patagonia and Northface bags.”
“I generally don't review products, but felt that it was required as this product did not meet all my expectations. I purchased this bag to bike to work with and overall has done the job well, but I've noticed some design flaws that I'd like to see improved.
Pros:
- Size: the internal size is quite roomy; there's a mesh pocket inside, small exterior pocket and the "shoe storage" at the end.
- Material: I overall like the material, it has a plasticy feel that feels like water won't get inside. But for some, the price might feel a little cheap
Cons
- Backpack Straps: this is where I feel is the biggest let-down. The straps that are included to use this like a backpack feel very underwhelming to put on and take off. The material and cushioning is thin, and the endpoints of the strap always twist when I put the bag on. This usually happens with most backpacks, but in this one if feels like it's trying to resist me from untwisting it, I believe it's because that strap that's attached to the cushion has 0 stretch and so it's forcing the cushion to bend around to seat into position. It may also be due to the removable endpoints as they spin around more than a regular backpack.
- Zippers: although the photos of the black bag look sleek with its all black look, I believe that's actually a flaw as the waterproof flaps that cover the black zipper make it longer to locate where the zippers are. You essentially have to remember how you zipped it up last, or run your hand around as they blend in due to the backpack straps laying on top as well. I wouldn't mind if they were white like the brand lettering, that would stand out in the dark as well.
-Adjustability: this bag has almost no adjustment apart from tightening the backpack straps. It would be nice to have a strap around the hip to limit the weight pulling down the shoulders when it's full.
Overall the bag feels like it can last a while, but there are some items that were overlooked that make it take longer to use than I would like.”

“The Tumalo 60L Dufflebag is an all purpose bag for cyclists. It allows great space for the weekend ride and the storage is great. The build is very well thought out and is a great entry level bag for anyone looking for storage. The backpack straps work great and the inner helmet section is amazing.”
“I use this for a ski bag, which I like because of the waterproof material. But I just used it for a flight and checked the bag. When I landed it Denver, one of the straps were missing. I tried contacting Smith CS about it but they said they’re is nothing they can do. They tried suggesting to buy a random strap from Amazon. The straps on this bag are flimsy and clearly not durable. Needless to say the CS team was NOT helpful and told me that bags are not included in the year warranty and there is nothing they can do for me.”
“This bag is the most uncomfortable bag to carry of any duffel i have ever used. The backpack straps are useless and there is no effective alternative to carry. The haul handles are in the most inconvenient locations that the bag carries super unbalanced no matter how you try to position it. Northface figured out how to make great backpack strap/haul handle combos that carry balanced and effective from multiple positions. I anticipate this item being dropped from smith in the near future. For $95 there are WAY better options out there.”
