“I've owned at least ten pair of Smith goggles. My four year old Vice's perform flawlessly but have bacon strap and scratched lenses. I did a lot of research before buying the Squad XL because they have to last, I bought them based on the majority of great reviews. I've worn them for the past two weeks every day, in every condition, and here's my personal experience.
First off, they make my eyes water. Somehow cold air gets in and it makes my eyes water. I've fiddled with my facemask (even removed it) and tried everything else to fix it to no avail. This sucks. These are integrated with Smith's top of the line helmet, the Quantum, so compatibility and fit aren't the issue. My old Vice's still work perfectly when I switched, zero eye water with the exact same conditions and gear on.
Next, they fog. Some others have said this too, but I figured it was user error as none of my other Smith goggles fog. It does dissipate when moving, but it's not cool being blind until so. If I put my jacket hood over my helmet, they fog. When I look down to get in a pocket or put my bindings on, they fog. On the chair, the bottoms fog. For the record, I dry my goggles and gear out completely every night. I know that damp goggles left in your car or bag will fog regardless, but this isn't the case. I also know goggles will fog if your facemask is under them, but this isn't the case either. And I don't hike with my goggles on.
Lastly, the lense changing system is terrible. It's similar to my old Vice's, except where the straps connect was changed for the worse. Many other people have made this comment so I was prepared. If you watch a video first to learn the best technique, and take your time, it's doable, but a hassle. Not the end of the world, and I was happy to get an extra lens because surely they will become scratched much sooner from the serious manhandling required to change lenses.
The positives. The style, they look good, but most people just see my back anyway :) The optics are good. They are comfortable. The beefier strap is nice, maybe it won't bacon as quickly. And the fit integration to my Quantum helmet is perfect, as it should be.
In the end, I'm disappointed in the performance of the Squad XLs. I haven't been let down with any other Smith goggle, my family of four each have a different model that all work flawlessly. I've been skiing and snowboarding for forty years and ride over fifty days a year. As a basic function, they shouldn't fog so easily and my eyes shouldn't water.”

“Love these. No reason to get the $300 goggles when you can get all the same results with the Squad XL. I ski in the low light lens in all conditions and it works perfectly. The large frame gives me clear field of view and is comfortable on my large nose :)”

“I've used the Squad XL goggle three times in stormy conditions and they have worked perfectly. The fit is fantastic with my Integrated fit Smith helmet. Fogging has not been an issue. I did swap out the lense for a Chromapop everyday green mirror lens which is a good no fuss lens for variable conditions.”
