“The standard fit in these left too much air gap in the nose/bridge area. Also, purchased the Low-bridge model resulting in a far better fit. I have a medium size face with high cheek bones. The first standard-fit pair was Everyday Rose-gold. The reflections and visual distortions were far too distracting. The low-bridge fit with Sun Platinum lens had less reflection and about the same visual distortions a bit out toward the edge of center. Visual distortion at the bottom was greatest, yet that was not so much of a concern since that is not where my vision would largely be focused.
I’ve experienced 3 collisions in last 5 years with other snowboarders/skiers running into me. Two were pretty bad. Having skied for 40+ years and at a level of advanced/expert. I can maneuver quickly on a dime fully in control. What changed in the last 5 years was that I started wearing goggles and a loss of vast peripheral vision. I’m certain all those collisions could have been avoided had I not been wearing goggles. In fact, on crowded days/runs I would simply slide them up on my helmet and settle for wind blast. In the past, always wore typical sun glasses except for those snowy days. I moved to the 4D MAG from Scott LCG goggles, which BTW loved everything about them except the substantial loss of peripheral sight. The 4d MAG in that regard was phenomenally better.
Moving on… thought I’d give the full-wrap Smith Flywheel sunglasses a try… Wow! Full peripheral site restored with substantial wind block! The Chromapop Sun Platinum lens is superb and no distortion that I could detect and reflections barely detectable. They are now my go-to eyewear for skiing.
For $300+ goggles I would expect the 4D MAG goggles to incorporate far better quality lenses. I’m on the fence with these and will likely return them. Hopefully, Smith will take notice and improve upon future iterations.”

“These goggles are fantastic with amazing clarity with an expanded field of view. It’s really simple to swap out lenses and I was really happy with both lenses available with the option I got. These are a bit on the pricey side of goggles but you really get a high quality product that performs really well and has a nice seal when paired with Smith helmets to eliminate any of that unwanted wind on your forehead.”

“Loving these goggles so far. Great field of vision, no fogging issues, and a comfortable close fit. I have been warned that they are prone to scratches and scuffs so I take extra extra care to avoid that. I would recommend to others.”

“I had a magnet come out of the frame on my 2 year old IO Mags and asked Smith how to repair. They sent me a warranty payment to buy new goggles! Outstanding customer service. I upgraded to the 4D Mag and paid the difference (only $40). I don't know if I would buy these based on the price tag and cost of replacement lenses, but what a difference they make! If you have money to burn these are worth the extra. Much larger field of view, incredible clarity and (so far) the lenses haven't scratched as easily as the IO Mag lenses (my one criticism of those goggles). The Storm Rose Chromapop lens is phenomenal in low and flat light situations. Its the difference between being able to ski and having zero visibility.”

“I was concerned about fogging due to the lens wrapping around the underside of the goggles, but these stay clear much better than my old I/Os. In fact, there’s so much airflow, at speed my contact lenses get jiggy. That’s when I know I need to turn more. . Love the photo chromatic lens too; Perfect for all but the cloudiest days.”
