“Bulova is a watch company with a lot of heritage, that has fallen on hard times. Being around longer than Rolex, it was one of those companies that really suffered during the quartz crisis, and has been passed around since now being owned by Citizen. However, what I love is that they are dipping into their heritage by trying to complete with Omega the same way they did in 191. However at a much more obtainable price, starting with the Lunar Pilot and now with this Lunar Pilot Meteorite Edition.
Now my Lunar Pilot (45mm) is my daily driver. I love that watch from its design, to how weighty it feels on my wrist. It is by no means a small watch, and when I heard of the smaller Lunar Pilot Mini, I wanted to try it out, but couldn&xt commit. This Meteorite edition finally got me to pull the trigger.
A lot of the discourse online regarding this watch is about how much you are paying for a quartz watch. My opinion, this is outstanding value for money. Grade 5 Titanium Case, Real Meteorite Dial, Sapphire crystal and a 6Khz quartz movement I think there is very little more you could ask for with this watch.
The smaller case size over the normal Lunar Pilot (45mm down to 43mm) makes this watch infinitely easier to wear. I have pretty large wrists, and can just pull off the normal Lunar pilot, but this smaller case size there&xs no question. It&xs easily wearable, I would say even for the smaller wristed folks. Additionally, it&xs now the same size as the original Bulova that actually went to the moon, something that matters to me. This watch represents history, a story, uniqueness and good value for money.
You could argue this is a cash grab from Bulova, further copying Omega and their meteorite dials, pushing their narrative against the Speedmaster.
I like to think of it as them carving out their own place in history, and having that be more obtainable and letting others have their fun.”
