“Seiko has been coming out with ever more interesting mechanical watches, and their GMT’s have definitely sparked my interest. This latest version is very Explorer II esque, but with it’s own DNA. In practical terms it’s a great travel watch with easily understandable dual time zones. It’s reasonably small width (39mm) makes it a pleasure to wear and not needlessly large like some fashion watches. The crown is actually quite nice, also slim but diameter is large enough to grasp well. The strap design is actually quite interesting and reasonably comfortable, although I’m not a fan of the pin design to remove links. The signed clasp is workmanlike in pressed steel, although understandable for this pricepoint. I really appreciate the drilled lugs, as it makes it infinitely easier to swap straps, turning the watch into a more elegant, or informal watch, just by changing strap. The all-around brushed surfaces are very workmanlike, but again fits with this watches’ adventure feel. You’re not going to mind taking it out and about.
Cons the hardlex crystal is not scratchproof, so expect it to get a few. Hardly an issue as aftermarket sapphire ones should soon be available.
That clasp is a bit jangly and the pressed steel is definitely on the “cheap” side.
Also not a fan of the pull-out crown, which means that it’s not as waterproof as a dive watch. . but it hasn’t stopped me from swimming with the watch. . but the risk of getting water in there is higher. . for an adventure watch hoping Seiko remedies this in a future edition. Other than those, fine watch!”
“When Rolex created the Explorer II, they did so with the needs of cavers in mind. This combination of a field watch with a GMT movement addresses the same needs, possibly better. The Rolex is a bit too … nice. This is more of tool watch, with a practicality to its design that I like. There is no rotating bezel to get clogged up with mud, or knocked off by impact with a rock.
Caving equipment can be recognised by its patina, gained through the hard use that it gets. The stainless steel used in this design is a material that holds up well, and continues to look good. We’ll see how the numbers on the GMT scale hold up with time.”
“The Seiko 5 SSK03K offers exceptional value for its price point. Its robust construction and thoughtful design make a strong impression. The dial&xs clarity ensures effortless time-reading, while the brushed case accents add a refined touch.
A standout feature is the GMT function, which is both practical and legible. This versatile timepiece complements various strap options. While the original metal bracelet is sturdy and attractive, it also pairs well with leather bands, enhancing its adaptability.
For those wanting a reliable, stylish, and feature-rich watch at a reasonable cost, the Seiko 5 SSK03K is a compelling choice.”
“Starbuy always has the best prices for one, I loved the design of this watch when it was released, I onky hesitated due to the hardlex crystal, but when starbuy had on sale I had to get it.
After wearing it for a few weeks the crystal is still perfect and I haven&xt babied the watch, so if you are on the fence grab one!”
