“Had a VFR 800FI back in the day, so when I reassessed my commuting needs and found a mint fully luggaged 1200 with less than 8k on the clock for less than £8k I bought it.
Main niggles have been well covered - fuel economy isn't great in town and the tank size is stupid small. I get 100 miles between petrol stations, and I'm not larging it. At low speed the injection is snatchy and the shaft drive can be lumpy until you get used to the ranges. Saddle is not that comfy, and after an hour it begins to pinch.
Good points. Get past town and the bike starts to make sense. Feels planted and secure, Brakes work just fine, cornering is smooth but be aware that the bike isn't greatly nimble so last minute direction changes and attempts to slalom are tricky , Rev past 4k and suddenly the engine begins to howl, the exhaust butterfly opens and the power surge begins.
I love the look of the bike, especially the single sided swing arm, and the practicality of NO CHAIN !!! Would I change it to something else? No, because Honda make bloody lovely bikes bloody well. This covers all of my needs and then some.”
“Its a Honda, so build quality is very good. The engine and gearbox are excellent and the
bike is surprisingly comfortable on long trips.
Two gripes, its heavy to push round and the fuel economy is not that good for
touring (160 miles per tank).”
