“It is a very good bike overall. Yamaha have missed a couple of opportunities with this latest revision though. The basic bike is great. However for a touring bike the seat is ok but not all day comfy. So you end up buying the comfort seat as an extra. I bought the sat-nav mount with mine and it sits in the ctr of the bars not covering the clocks. Perfect. It is an extra and I think if Yamaha had revised the dash they could have made a fitted in unit. LED lights are amazing. All bikes should have them. Cornering lights are ok but you really shouldn't look at the road whilst leaning over like that!!! More gimic than helpful. Dash is clear. All led. Good at night and adjustable brightness. Suspension has more settings than my TV and will take a while to set up for you. Best fuel was 52mpg. Worst was 47 ish. Average about 49mpg. Range of over 250 miles easily from a tank. More if you take it easy.
Screen again for a touring bike is ok. Wind hits you under the chin on low. On high it is over your head. Bought a bigger screen for winter riding and will put original back on in the spring. Link brakes are good but take a while to get used to esp at slow speed.
Why didn't Yamaha figure out how to have a top box at the same time as the side panniers? Its a strange one. You can have either or but not both according to Yamaha. Same as the old model. If BMW can do it why can't Yamaha? I use a rigid bag strapped to the top box plate when touring with the missus. Remove it when i get home. Simples”
“Upgraded from a gen 3 FJR primarily for cruise control as most of my journeys are touring and nice to relax my right hand at times. My old Fjr I had to change the rear shock as I found it soft when riding two up, but this model had suspension adjustable modes on the dash, so I can adjust to any riding conditions. It has a six speed box which gives you that cruising speed comfort by reducing the revs slightly, and the slipper clutch is very smooth. I noticed also I don,t have that excessive rear drive backlash clunk , which drove me crazy on our old bike. The touring mode allows for a slower throttle pick up and my wife now doesn,t continually bang her helmet off mine when changing gear. Their are various other differences such as Led lighting , cornering lights, etc but very happy with my purchase and glad I made the upgrade.”
