Had loads of bikes, but this must be the best all rounder I've had. Almost 110hp, loads of low down power and good acceleration with 8v engine and (with screen) will tour all day at motorway speeds. Good handling, low maintenance with shaft drive and with full luggage it's amazing what it carries on annual Isle of Man trip. As I only use on the roads I feel it's a better bike than the 1200GS I had.

If only BMW would learn how to make a proper indicator switch, I wouldn't have a single complaint.

If you want to enjoy a pleasant and exhilarating bike ride in comfort, and don't want to overtake everything else on the road and get your knee down at every bend then the BMW 1200R is the ideal bike. The bike has more than enough power for rapid acceleration and swift, safe overtaking. It also corners very well and stops on a sixpence giving the rider all the confidence needed to make good progress. The seat and riding position are just about perfect and eminently suitable for making all day rides without any undue discomfort. Top this off with incredible fuel economy for a large capacity engine and clean, low maintenance shaft drive and for all round use this bike takes some beating.

After five years with a Harley this bike was both a shock and a revelation. The lack of front end dive under braking which meant sliding forward on the seat before getting used to it was a shock, but in reality it doesn't take many miles to acclimatise and get use to a front end that feels really planted in the corners. The revelation is the ride and handling along with the fantastic quality of the engineering. Also the buying experience with Marshall Moterrad in Grimsby was second to none.
