“I bought the bike secondhand from a work colleague who had owned the bike from new. At the time it was 8 years old and had covered just 11500 miles. I have now owned the bike for 9 years and it has covered 25000 miles. The bike has been extremely reliable, the only repair being replacement fork seals around 4 years ago. The GS500 is not the most exciting bike in the world but is an ideal commuter returning 60 mpg and more than capable of longer journeys as it easily holds motorway speeds.
I've read that the finish on the GS500 is not the best but it seems on par with other Japanese bikes I've owned previously. The silencer appears to be a weak spot as the previous owner had replaced it with a Nexus stainless steel system as the original rusted through. The Nexus system has been on the bike ever since and is still in good shape today. The bike has never failed an MOT and has been worth the £1000 I paid for it.”
