“I came to riding fairly late in life. I learned on a bandit 650 GSF so bought one after passing my test. About 18months ago I moved to a V-Strom DL650 (2012). I went to the dealers to test a number of bikes, including a couple of hondas (cross tourer / NC 750) just happened to see the V-Strom, I took it out and immediately I knew it was the bike for me. Easy to ride, great seating position, enough power but won't catch ypu out, a very good bike. I ride with others on much more powerful bikes (VFR1200, Blackbird etc) but I never get left behind. It has been very relaible so far, albeit build quality isn't as good as a honda. That said, it was two thirds of the price!! My bike lives outside under a cover and is weathering well. The only negative thing for me is the frequency of servicing. I'm doing 10,000 mileas a year and the bike needs a service every 4,500.
I've ridden lots of friends bikes this year but always get back on the V-strom and think - yep great bike.”
