“This is the first scooter or motorcycle I've owned so I don't have the experience of any other vehicle to compare. However, I've had my Beverly from new and it's about 15 months old now.
So far it has been reliable and there has been no problems other than having to top up coolant, it was bone dry by the time I noticed so it must of been empty for some time but it didn't seem to affect the running and no warning lights came on.
Around town it's pretty much as fast as the big bikes and it's a nice comfortable ride and comfortable enough for long rides and long legs, I'm 6"2.
My plan was to start of with a scooter because the insurance was so much cheaper but I'm seriously thinking about just sticking with the Beverly as I've been very pleased so far.”
“Pros:- Italian good looks and design detail. Cheap to buy, cheap to maintain and cheap to run (or should it be, "inexpensive"?) A good all round comfortable scooter - big wheels, lots of storage room under the seat, light weight, parts availability is good & reasonably priced from several suppliers, good acceleration & braking and easy on old, dodgy knees (especially with a pillion.)
Cons:- Standard seat becomes uncomfortable after a hundred miles, 34bhp is on the low side for 2 up with luggage cruising and there are the usual doubts about reliability, finish & durability over long term ownership (compared with Japanese, especially Honda, and British, especially Triumph, quality standards.)
I haven't had any problems or issues with this scooter, so far, and the build quality is very good, as far as I can tell. The Dealer, who sold me the bike, gives a free lifetime warranty with all used Japanese, British, German and American machines, but not Italian brands. Obviously, this Dealer Network has reservations regarding long term reliability and durability, but I hope to prove them wrong. Looking on Owner Forums and talking to 2 Piaggio Dealers, there seem to be no areas of real concern or issues of reliability or durability.”
