“I have owned a Vespa ET4 before and then got an ET2 as being a 50cc two-stroke, it has plenty of power which can be tuned and I can carry a pillion as I have a full car license. The ET4/ET2 marked the 50th anniversary with a completely new shape.
For me, the rear end looks to me like an American muscle car. Strong sweeping curves yet still with lines that give the bike a great stance. The engine is a hi-per 2 Piaggio 2 stroke engine that is also used in the Piaggio zip, Vespa lx and many other Piaggio scooters. It's a reliable engine that only needs basic maintenance such as new belts and rollers every 10,000 miles. My own scooter has 35,000 and hadn't been serviced at all yet I have stripped the bike to find it all in good condition. One major thing to note for et2/et4 owners or any metal bodied monocoque framed scooter, rust! As these scooters were designed to be ridden in salt free sunny Italian roads, they tend to rust just behind the front wheel as water, debris and stones hit the undercarriage and chip paint leading to bubbling paint, then rust. An easy preventive measure is to install a cheap plastic mudgaurd flap and also if you can, remove any surface rust and underseal it.
The understead storage is good for a open helmet, maybe a full face. There is a bag hook that slides out from the front of the seat and if you push the ignition switch, the front legshield door pops open, there you can store bottles or smaller items.
The ET2 also has a side kickstand unlinke its bigger brother the ET4. However it's always best to leave it propped on the maint stand as some have reported their ET2's falling over from just a nudge on the sidestand.
MPG is roughly around 55miles per a gallon.
Overall I'd say it a great classic looking scooter that if cared for the first time around, can last for decades, plus there are many many parts from other newer scooters who share the same engine so it can last forever almost. Always check for floor rust which is the major killer of these lovely machines.”
