“Excellent value for money bike, often overlooked by buyers, (economical (55-60) average mpg. Great all rounder, toured Europe regularly, 2up with full givi luggage, commuted and back road scratcher, performing extremely well at everything, the original adventure bike although never having pretendtions off being an offroader. Had mine 8 years and still can't find another bike to be as practical & good an all rounder as the TDM 900.”
“The Yamaha TDM was light years ahead of its time (before Suzuki DL 650/1000, Ducati Multistrada 1000DS) and a really good bike and only now people are cottoning on to it, shame because Yamaha dropped it in 2010, but in Europe they got it and the TDM sold very well. It does every thing I want/need, Commute, tour, Back Lane Scratch, has bags of character and fun to ride.”
“Great value-for-money bike. Totally reliable (nothing wrong in 40k miles), comfortable for all-day riding with standard screen (I'm 5'10"), 50mpg all the time. It's not a sports bike but it's quicker than you might think and plenty quick enough for me. Only downside is the finish quality which isn't brilliant but there again you get what you pay for, I'm also not the best in the world at washing them regularly...
My previous rides were a BMW R100RS followed by a Honda VFR750. Of the 3 the VFR is undoubtedly the best and the price I paid for it reflects that but the Yamaha runs it a very close second and is definitely better value for money. I've had it now for 8 years and have no intention of changing.”
