“When launched, the R12ST was widely put down by the motorcycle for being ugly and not capable of putting up a fight against such as the VFR750 and Triumph's Sprint. If you are willing to ditch the shocks (both ends, it's a BMW) with say, Nitrons, lose the cat and end- can thus ridding it of some weight, plugging in a Power Booster to even out the slight sag in the mid-range, then and only then, you have one heck of a sports tourer! I recently thought about p/ex'ing mine against a new Triumph/Honda/Yamaha but realised the R12ST has more character and ability than any of the modern offerings. And it suits/fits me better than the new R1200RS. I'll keep it forever! Luggage, 220 mile tankfuls and a lovely long 6th gear. Superb!”
