The cast struggled to bring the play alive - only occasionally getting a genuine laugh from the audience in the first half and, in the second half, largely failing to engage the audience's sympathies in the outcome over the battle for Gerald's affection. There is no real chemistry between the characters - they all looked rather bored and tired with each other. As a period piece the play itself suffers by comparison with Wilde's other better known plays, and as a social critique this somewhat half-hearted revival failed to ignite the issues. Sorry, (I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings) but we came away disappointed, and it just didn't work for us.
