Fine Woodworking on Planes and Chisels Now back in print! To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Fine Woodworking , the Taunton Press is re-releasing a number of classic titles from the early days of the magazine. Long out of print, the books are filled with expert information that's as timeless now as when it was first published. Well-sharpened planes and chisels may be the most important tools in the woodworking shop. They can be used to make a rough board flat and smooth, to cut slickly fitting joints, or to shape a delicate edge. In this collection of 29 articles from Fine Woodworking magazine, expert craftsmen explain how they choose, sharpen, and use every kind of plane and chisel. Theres advice on tool maintenance, plus plans for making your own wooden-bodies planes, and a thorough discussion of sharpening. "These profoundly illustrated volumes make up an excellent and economical encyclopedia of woodworking."Los Angeles Times Editors of Fine Woodworking

This book was originally released by Taunton Press in 1985 and then reissued in 2015. It is part of an 80's series called "Fine Woodworking On" and as far as I'm aware there are 21 volumes to date (but only 7 were added to or re-released in 2015). Each book volume covers a general topic in WW (such as "Planes & Chisels"). Within each book topic, Taunton Press has reprinted a collection of related articles, from their own "Fine Woodworking" magazine (29 for P&C). These articles are chosen because they are amazing, rewarding, inciteful, ingenious and worthwhile to read. The articles typically offer a different perspective, that you're unlikely to find elsewhere and you'll covet what you've just learnt/discovered. This is even true for a book on P&C, where you'd think there's nothing more to discuss on the subject, but this book has managed it. Once you've discovered the wealth in one of these volumes, you'll be compelled to want to find the rest of the series from somewhere; they're all valuable resources. Timberbits offers several of these volumes and they are an absolute must to collect (for all woodworkers). I'm now up to 20/21, with two volumes just bought from Timberbits.
