622 Tiger Myrtle Pen Blank Rare Tasmanian Native with Striking Figure Botanical name: Nothofagus cunninghamii Tiger Myrtle is one of the rarest and most visually dramatic Myrtle timbers, known for its distinctive dark tiger stripe patterning caused by natural fungal staining. These rich, high-contrast markings set it apart from standard Myrtle and make it a prized material among pen makers and fine woodworkers. The most prominent figure is revealed when the timber is quarter sawn, where the bold striping is displayed in clean, flowing lines. These blanks are sourced from select Tasmanian Myrtle trees where the internal defect or fungal activity produces this uniquely patterned grain. Features Rare tiger stripe figuring caused by fungal pigmentation Rich pink to reddish-brown base tones with dark contrasting bands Hard, tough, and fine-grained ideal for detailed turning Polishes to a smooth, high-gloss finish Specifications Dimensions: 20mm x 20mm x 120mm Supplied dry and ready to turn (not wax-sealed) Species: Nothofagus cunninghamii (Tiger Myrtle) Note: Each blank is unique. Grain orientation and striping intensity will vary from piece to piece, with quarter-sawn blanks generally showing the most pronounced figure.
