“First off, let me say that it's not a bad shoe, it's just the wrong shoe for me. I can't tell you how much I appreciate Vessi for making water proof runners. I've lived in Vancouver my whole life, and (aside from boots) you could never get waterproof shoes here. It's bizarre. It's one of the wettest places you can be, but in my 4 decades here, I've never come across some waterproof shoes for sale. In fact, everything in the shoe section is typically the opposite of waterproof.
All that being said, these shoes wrecked my feet and messed up my vacation. I decided to wear them when we visited Washington state and Oregon. Naturally I figured I needed waterproof shoes for the week, because it was fall in Pacific North West. By the end of the first day my feet were killing me, on all sides. Worst of all, my arches felt terrible and I ended up hobbling around. At first I tried buying insoles for support. But in the end I had to purchase a new pair of shoes in order to continue with our exploring. Which was frustrating because we were travelling light and on a budget. And, of course, the replacements were not waterproof.
I've come to the conclusion that these are good shoes, they just aren't great for the big & tall over an entire day.
I've purchased the EveryDay Move shoes as well, and just like these, they are excellent if worn for a couple hours maximum. But an entire day ends up being very painful. I think it has to do with my size and weight (over 6 feet tall, 260lbs and size 14 feet). That's why they are fine over short uses, but gravity takes its toll over an entire day.
My best friend introduced me to Vessi and he buys several pairs a year. Vessi's are pretty much all he wears, so I know they are great shoes. And I wanted to give them a higher star rating, but when a shoe injures you and forces you to buy a different shoe to finish a holiday, then I don't think it's fair not to warn others with a similar body type.
(Also, it's a bummer you don't have more size 14 options. I've never really "picked" my shoes, I just went with the only option at the time that had a size 14 available. Even when I submitted my other review, it didn't give me the option to say I bought a 14, it just went up to 13 and I was forced to put that).
Thank you.”
Hi Niko,
Thanks for taking the time to share your experience with us. I'm glad your Vessis are keeping you dry!
We’re sorry to hear your Vessis aren't providing you the amount of comfort you're looking for, we can imagine how disappointing that must be.
As a casual/city shoe, Vessis do provide relatively low arch support. Some people love this, while others find it doesn’t work well for them. This is why we made the insoles removable so you have the option of using your own inserts for a more customized fit and comfort.
We’ll certainly share your thoughts with the rest of the team as we feel it is important to take into consideration all of the feedback we receive from our customers.
Thank you again for sharing your thoughts on your Vessis with us.
“These shoes are pure comfort and joy. Holds up the Vancouver "sunshine" like a boss and the padding is really nice. Fit is a bit boxy though for though of us with long feet.”
“I like the comfort that comes from not having to worry about getting my shoes and socks wet. It's a good confidence. I did replace the insoles with SuperFeet because I do for all my shoes.”
