We’re sorry to hear you’re Vessis are experiencing some discomfort from your shoes. For some reference, however, it’s actually quite normal for the ankle opening to be a little snug to start. Over the first few wears of your new shoes, you’ll notice that the upper knit and ankle opening will stretch to accommodate your foot shape. By starting tighter, this allows the shoe to mold to your ankle shape - making sure no water seeps in through the ankle opening.
Some customers use a shoehorn in the meantime, which should help. You can also speed up the stretching process by leaving a few pairs of thick socks balled up inside the shoes overnight.

“I love these shoes. Walked around Spain with them for a month in all sorts of weather and they held up great! As waterproof as they say they are and comfortable!
My one issue is the white stains so easily and badly and no amount of washing gets them clean again. My husband bought grey and they are much better. If you buy these, just don't buy white.”
