Our information online is correct, these lights do have a tail function - this means the LEDs illuminate when your lights are on (for example at night - same as the back lights of a car). You should really have your lights on at all times when towing so the tail lights should always be visible.
If you take a look at the product packaging there is a Wiring Colour Code which states that the Black & Brown wires are for Tail / Licence Plate.
