“I’m fairly new to plastering and up until now my approach to problem walls and ceilings was PVA but when I was faced with an artex ceiling that has been painted in silk emulsion I had to think again. I bought blue grit as a result of comments made by more experienced plasterers and here is my tale.
I tool off the high ridges and after a quick stir I painted on the blue grit. It is blue so you can see exactly where you’ve been and the grit is quite evident. I did nothing else to the ceiling other than to make sure the artex was sound. It only needs a single coat but as I had a bit left over I did give it a thin second coat. Twenty four hours later when dry I plastered it and all looks good. It’s sound with no cracks. It was £18 for 5 litres but what price do you place on piece of mind.”
