1970s Original Clothkits® Boy Rag Doll Sewing Kit Reviews

4.6 Rating 13 Reviews
I enjoyed revisiting my cloth kit memories., the doll is for my great grandson, I made cloth kit clothes for his grandmother! My only criticism is that the thread quality seems poor, and I used one of my own on the machine. The cut end of the one provided was always a bit fuzzy, no matter which scissors I used. .. so almost impossible to thread the sewing machine needle…. Being a great grandmother, my eye sight isn’t what it used to be, probably making the task more challenging

I have adoredmaking this rag doll for my grandson. I made another from this collection for my daughter in the 1980s! Everything included except wadding. Very quick and easy delivery.

Hi, my daughter was born in 1978 and I was a keen customer for years. I had a boy and a girl rag doll with all the clothing, but remember that one of them - the boy not the girl I thought - had an Indian complexion. Is that right? Loved all your pretty and good quality things for both my children.

Thanks so much for taking the time to leave us a lovely review Clorinda, we really appreciate it here :-) There have been two variations of this boy doll kit in the past, but we currently only have the one in stock. Do watch this space as we plan to reissue 'Kit' with a brown skin tone soon. Very best wishes, Kay

Please make more printed patterns! This little chap got me back into sewing and my daughter loves him! She had the coat in the eighties as a toddler! So easy to make with perfect results! I made the girl doll too to keep him company!

I love this kit. I've two of the boy and one girl for friends and relatives children. The kids love them, the choice of outfits that go with them are fun as well.

It was lovely to have a Clothkits to make up again, this time for the next generation. The one disadvantage I found, as originally, was that half a centimetre is really too small as a seam allowance especially for a doll which needs to be hard-wearing. The metric system was newly fashionable in the early seventies and the seam allowances suggested were often untried. It would probably be too difficult to adjust the pattern without losing the spirit of the design. Writing this review the word 'centimetre' came up as a spelling mistake. The American English spelling 'centimeter' was suggested. The next suggestion was to be more consistent and use British English. Typing both 'colour' and 'color', my usual test, shows alternative suggestions in both cases while typing either elsewhere in the text is disregarded. If Clothkits is paying for a computer program checking spelling and grammar I suggest cancelling it. with thanks, V. H.
