“The Torosaurus pair Aubrey and Dabei are beautiful scientific models. They're ceratopsians, with a large, tall neck-frill, two long and very solid horns, and a nose bump that isn't a horn, but is pointed. Apart from liking them as models, I got them because these are one of the last dinosaurs to evolve before Chixalub. Looking at parent and baby, and imagining the asteroid approaching the Earth . . . Not good. The models are good, however. The main colouring on both models is grey, and a fawn colour that shades into orange-ish. You wouldn't think grey could be fascinating, but the bodies are both varied and shaded remarkably well. The little Torosaurus is completely done in these colours -- and has a slightly worried look, as a small ceratopsian well might. It wasn't a large percentage that lived from hatching to adulthood. This one has a protective adult with him, who looks well able to put paid to any attacker. He or she stands with their legs braced, mouth open as if calling an alarm for the rest of the herd. Apropos of which, these models remind me that apex predators are bad news, but herbivores with horns that live in herds are not what you want to tangle with. I see the Torosaurus as the (much larger) Cape Buffalo of his world. (Although I understand the idea that ceratopsians favoured herds is up for debate.) Meanwhile, back at PNSO, model lovers should note that the inside of the adult's open mouth is very well shaped, with tongue and gums visible. These two figures grow on you, the more you look at their subtle posing and the story it could tell. The adult Torosaurus has a few more colours than the baby, with greenish shades here and there, and a blue, orange, black and bright gold pattern on its "sheild". If flushed with blood, the brighter pattern would look like two huge eyes, further off the ground that the Torosaur's own. I don't know what a theropod dinosaur would do, but I'd certainly run away... One minor note: I really don't like the artwork and booklets and posters and "stuff" that ends up in the PNSO box with the models. I'd sooner have GBP10-00 off the price, and buy more models! I'll also add that the adult and baby paired models from PNSO are obviously aimed at complete suckers who go "Aww!" when they look at huge mummy or daddy, and tiny baby. Apparently I'm just such a sucker. And so is my partner and fellow collector. We have the Stegosaurus pair (Beiber and Rook) , and A-Qi the young Sinoceratops, and Aeron the young T-Rex . . . Some more "cartoonish" than others, like the latter two. And we'll probably give strong consideration to the next 'little and large' set!”
