“The Maul itself is a savage work of brilliance, however... the hollow plastic shaft seems like a lazy and cheap addition. It lacks a balance to weight of Maul's head and seems almost too short for the wielder's swing. A forward curve at the base of the shaft would have improved the ergonomics of it and allow for an easier extraction when it's lodged in wood. A stronger shaft, wood or even the lighter carbon fiber would have sufficed to give it a more balanced swing and not just a hammer. The shipping was good, the Maul itself is good. But the handle really disappointed me. Something so strongly made should have had the means to truly swing it like an axe. A good tool for the inexperienced, but for the experienced, it could definitely be better. I'll likely see about getting a custom shaft made to better regulate the swing and provide more distal force, as well as balance. My 15lb steel Mace for working out swings significantly better than the Maul.”
Thanks so much for your review. The handle on the TSR Fire Maul is actually the highest grade composite handle available. It certainly isn't hollow at all, it consists of a completely over engineered epoxy resin fiberglass core built to withstand the extreme pressures during FE when using the tool to extend leverage on a halligan bar. We are sorry you do not favor the ergonomics of our handle design, most people find it extremely effective as a striking tool engineered specifically for forcible entry. This tool is certainly not meant to be used like an axe. Although, it does wonders on thicker multilayered roofs too.
