“This is the definitive package of The Quatermass Xperiment, bursting with extras and booklets, the only criticism is that the 1.66 version and the 1.37 version are both on the same disc which does of course seriously compromises the bitrate on the disc, it would be better if they just forgot about the 1.85 version (it's the shorter version anyway which I'm never going to watch) and put the 1.66 and 1.37 versions on seperate discs.”
“Excellent bundle, wasn't sure it would be worth it as quite expensive, but a whole set of disks, great extras and a really well put together and presented package, including the cardboard box it came in! A real collectors item, have already ordered the next one in the series.”
“With their edition of The Quatermass Xperiment, Hammer continues to set the gold standard for how to treat cult films. However, unlike the last film to receive such a lush package (Captain Kronos: Vampire Hunter), The Quatermass Xperiment is a watershed moment for both (British) science fiction and Hammer. You can draw a straight line from Richard Wordsworth's tortured performance and grisly metamorphosis to films such as The Thing and The Fly.
It's a joy to watch the new restoration, and as always, the lavish extras do a wonderful job contextualising the film and taking us behind the scenes. The inclusion of the surviving episodes of the original BBC serial is the unexpected icing on the cake and goes to show just how seriously Hammer is approaching this line of releases. I frankly can't think of any boutique label that would be able to do better than this.”
“An absolute treat for Hammer fans. The definitive release of one of the best SF horror films ever made. Excellent documentary supplements, excellent commentaries, excellent restorations, and several fascinating printed supplements. I couldn't be happier.”
“Having already purchased the very wonderful Captain Kronos special edition I took the plunge and ordered the Quatermas Xperiment - and its equally gorgeous and though some may think it pricey, the quality and the depth of extras makes it well worth while and shows that Hammer are exceeding some other more established boutique labels. Even the branded packaging it's sent in is a really nice touch.”
