KickAss 400W Portable Air Conditioner For Camping Reviews

3.9 Rating 38 Reviews
For a 400w rated AC, I had fairly low expectations, but given i got it for $499 I thought i would give it a go. This thing has surprised me big time. It cools my rear fold hard floor camp trailer down allot more than I thought it would. Just returned from a camp trip in Far North Queenslsnd and it was bloody hot. I had it set to 16°c on the highest fan speed, after about 2 hrs i was too cold and set the temp to 20°c and on the lowest fan speed setting. When I woke up the next morning I thought it was a little too cold. This AC is fairly quiet. My only negative against it, is i feel there is no difference between the high and low fan speeds. And also when you turn on the sleep mode, nothing really happens, it's not any quieter and it doesn't use any less power. Other than these two minor things, this is one of the best things I've ever bought for camping.

Fan speed options are very limited with fast and faster the only choices. It's also not "whisper quiet" but manageable. We ran it on a 2000w inverter on our boat over Christmas and it cooled the small cabin down well. Wouldn't run it more than a few hours though without solar or a generator otherwise it would chew through the battery.

Whilst we didn't expect too much from an airconditioner with only 400W, it wasn't able to drop the 29 degree temperature in our caravan at all, however if you sat right in front of it, the air was nice and cool when it was set to the minimum temperature of 16 degrees. This was on a 28 degree day with the caravan in full sun and a pleasant breeze outside. In these conditions we would normally have all the caravan windows open to enjoy the breeze. Therefore I think it will be useful on those stinking hot days, sitting outside under an awning, when a normal fan can only blow hot air and this will blow chilled air directly onto you.

It doesn't come with a manual so you have to figure it out yourself, The fan speed is only fast or faster It didn't come with the water hose It seems to work okay but because of the fan setting it's very noisy

Great product which cools down our bike trailer to a loverly 20 deg. For it to get a 5 star the supplied legs need to have the ability to be able to bolt or screw to the floor to travel. Maybe a rubber mat that it could sit on with a strap over the top. Other than that a fantastic product that works better than expected. Shane

Love it, small enough to carry around the caravan and the tent, store away and bull out when needed so it is not occupying space plus it is powerful enough to cool down my caravan and tent running on the battery power through the inverter. It did not run through my 1500 watt inverter when the compressor kicked in, but the 2000 watt inverter handled it fine
