Roland TD-27KV2 V-Drums Reviews

5 Rating 1 Reviews
There’s plenty of really good reviews on this kit online but just wanted to add my 2 cents. Coming from a Yamaha DTX with mostly rubber pads (gel snare) this has been a massive step up and has already seen my drumming skills skyrocket. I was originally looking at 17KVX2, but the extra bells and whistles on the 27KV2 tempted me to drop more $$$, and I think it was a good choice. The DTX was a great introductory kit and good fun, good for limb independence etc, but had no subtlety in the expression. This thing is scarily accurate in how well it translates what my hands are doing to it’s output, where the DTX would let you get away with some fudged technique that won’t work here! Which is a great thing. The snare is beautiful and feels just like the real thing - picks up on the smallest of grace notes and does an uncanny job of replicating complicated rolls. The hi hat likewise replicates the smallest notes really well, and has a bunch of different zones for more interesting expression from the top to the edge. The real surprise MVP here is the digital ride cymbal - not the component I think of first when it comes to drums but this thing is truly great. It’s hard to explain without playing but like the snare, it has an amazing ability to translate complex input in to a convincing sound - it can go from standard hits, with some bell hits thrown in to mix it up, and then transition to a rising swell all at the same time. The resonance of any previous hits on other parts of the cymbal continue in a realistic way. Being a big cymbal, I also like that the bell zone is very generous compared to other kits I’ve played - makes it much easier for me to nail it everytime I want it. The module is also excellent and very easy to use - it’s so easy to change the tones, sounds and EQ in real time, with muffling and levels right on the front panel. I’ve got it paired with an Alesis Strike 12, and it sounds fantastic. Overall really happy with this purchase.
