The device itself works well once configured. It has two ethernet ports, and by default it's setup as a router - so in theory you could plug it into your internet service directly (eg the NBN) and then plug other things into the second port, but I would not recommend that - I doubt it would be very fast. If you want to use that second port, I'd recommend using bridge mode which means that in my case, I have the cable from the switch going into the HT812 (it connects at gigabit speed), and then my printer is plugged into the second port and the printer gets a normal local network address (eg no NAT) and I don't lose a switch port. I use my HT812 to provide the landline as well as fax line for my multi function fax/printer over VoIP. Neither are used that often, but can be handy to have. The biggest challenge is/was configuring it. The manual suggests finding an analog handset and using the "interactive voice response menu" to program it, which sounds like a pain. Best option is to plug the HT812 into your network, find out what address has been assigned to it using your router, and then configure it via the web interface. Failing that, then sure - use the "IVR" to discover the IP address, and then use the web to configure it. Speaking of which, the interface is pretty old school - but on the other hand there are a huge number of options that can be tweaked to best suit your situation that might not have been possible to include in a more simple gui. Check online - such as whirlpool - for some guides on setting it up. Mine also was a few versions behind - it should automatically update itself, but I downloaded the latest firmware and did it manually.

Service was great and efficient and delivery was excellent by arriving 24 hrs. after the order was placed. I found the order confirmation requirement a bit intimidating when the charged had already been committed to my credit card. I accept there may be a safety need in the event of a fraud perhaps.
