“I got 6 BBS Andalusian chicks in July 2017. They all arrived looking strong and healthy, and I didn't lose any of them. I was a little disappointed that I got 4 black chicks and 2 blue, and one of the blues turned out so dark that it's hard to tell her from the black chickens from a distance. So I really only have 1 of the bunch that has the classic Blue Andalusian look. I didn't get any splash at all, which I would have loved to have. Regardless, I got them because they are heat tolerant non-setters, and they are living up to that so far! One of the chicks was mis-sexed and My Pet Chicken promptly refunded me for him. The hens have lovely personalities. They free range on a couple acres, but will follow me around the yard begging for treats (one in particular is very chatty!) and I can catch them easily when I need to. They started laying in December, even though they didn't have artificial lighting, and I consistently get 4 eggs daily from the 5 of them (I do occasionally get 5, but usually someone is taking a day off!) The eggs are on the small side, usually 44-48 grams. I'm still hoping they will get larger as the hens get older- they are only 8 months old now. The rooster did not have a nice personality, and became rather aggressive (the only aggressive rooster I've had so far!) and had to be rehomed. I took a star off since there were so many black ones in the bunch and the rooster was such a jerk, and those two things make me hesitant to order a second group of them.”
“I selected three Blue Andalusians five years ago in my second batch of original hens. They are very friendly hens that are curious about everything I do. Doris is black and Chicken Wing is blue. Drumstick was blue as well, but sadly, the victim of predation while free ranging. Doris comes in the coop and talks to me during the daily poo removal. She hops up on the roost pole in my face to make sure I see her, eats out of my hand and sits on my chair arm while I read in the summer. My hens are not super pet like, but she is pretty close. “I ordered just three chicks, being a backyard chicken hobbyist and not a serious breeder or egg vendor (I have five adult hens they will join later). It's absolutely awesome that I can order so few, in a wide range of breeds that are impossible to find locally or at my farm store (and it was nearly impossible to choose, but I finally decided on friendlier breeds because my chickens are pets, as much as I appreciate their eggs)! Plus, I was able to order by sex so that I get the hens I want and don't get the roos I don't! In addition to my BBS Andalusion (I'm praying she comes out with "splash" plumage), I also ordered a Lavender Orphington and White Cochin (oh, such cute feathered legs! It may change, but I'm currently calling her "Chaps" because of her feathered thighs!). I was particularly impressed with the fact that I ordered my little peepers late evening on October 29, and they shipped October 30 and arrived October 31! You guys are on the ball! Everyone arrived chirping and sprite, and easily took to a sip of water and offered crumbles. “My chicks arrived the very next day, chirping and healthy. Ordering was easy, and when I changed one chick from one breed to another, they went out of their way to make this possible. I paid extra for the vaccination and am glad I did. They are too wonderful to lose! They arrived in a warm package with an ingenious "heat pack." So well done. And now, a few weeks old, they are healthy, happy, beautiful chicks - Rhode Island Red, Cuckoo Maran, Speckled Sussex and Black Australorp. I had a broody Black Australorp hen (wonderful breed!) and she adopted these chicks on the second day. It is beautiful to watch her take care of them, as they chatter with glee across the lawn.
