Pullet: Silked White Easter Egger, Shipping Week of Reviews

4.4 Rating 9 Reviews
This breed originally appealed to me because it is exclusive to MPC. This is my second one. I love the look of a silkie in a large fowl package. Very striking and easy bird. My pullet is a follower, not a leader.

We ordered and received our lovely Silked Easter Egger pullet from MPC in 2021. We named her Odie and over the years she has become one of our VERY FAVORITE girls in our flock of 10!!! Honestly, we enjoy them all and each one has her own personality, but Odie is special! She is super cute and fluffy and a good layer too. She kind of looks like a mix between a lama (of the chicken world) and a giant baby chick. She is very pretty, even a bit elegant! Her personality is very calm and sweet. She is the only silky in our mixed flock and when we got her I was concerned that she might get bullied, but luckily she does not. She gets along great with the other birds. She is always gentle with our cute little bantams and never gets bullied by the bigger girls. (We are lucky to have a very calm flock because of our wonderful queen hen Spotty Dot, a Dominique heritage breed that we got from MPC as a baby chick when we started our flock in 2018). Though Odie has blue earlobes, which is supposed to denote egg color, she lays a slightly pinkish-white, medium sized egg. We LOVE our Odie so much and she is so delightful that we don’t care about the egg color! If you really want blue eggs get yourself a Cream Legbar. We have one of those named Rodan that we got from MPC about 4 years ago. Rodan lays lots of large pale blue eggs which are very pretty and she is a very nice bird, but not a total sweetheart like Odie! If you want a total sweetheart and a cute fluffy, pretty bird in your flock I would highly recommend the Silked White Easter Egger based on our experience with our beloved Odie!!! If your bird lays blue eggs, as many of them do, then it is a bonus, but this breed is wonderful either way!!!

Oh wow — thank you so much for sharing Odie’s story! It absolutely made our day to read about your Silked White Easter Egger sweetheart and the joy she’s brought to your flock (and to you!). “A mix between a llama and a giant baby chick” might be the most adorable and accurate description we’ve ever heard — we’re totally stealing that one. It warms our hearts to know Odie is not only holding her own in a mixed flock but doing so with grace, fluff, and kindness — that’s no small feat! We’re especially glad to hear she gets along well with your bantams and big girls alike, thanks to your peaceful flock and your queen hen Spotty Dot. We LOVE hearing about chicken matriarchs running a tight but gentle coop. We completely agree — while egg color can be a fun bonus, it’s the personality that really makes a hen special. And Odie sounds like one in a million. Thank you again for such a thoughtful, heartfelt review — it’s stories like yours that remind us why we do what we do. Sending Odie (and Rodan and Spotty Dot!) a big virtual cuddle from the MPC team!

She’s a beautiful girl, but she lays light brown cream eggs Super bummed about that as we paid waaay more for this silkie because the website explicitly stated mature hens lay blue eggs

We completely understand your disappointment and truly appreciate your feedback as it is invaluable and helps us continue improving the experience for all our customers. This variety is a custom cross, bred exclusively for My Pet Chicken. On average, 15 out of 16 pullets will lay blue eggs when they mature, and we try to make sure customers are aware of this by including the information on the breed pages. We're genuinely sorry that you received one of the rare few that lays cream-colored eggs. We completely understand how disappointing that must be and hope your hen still brings you joy in other ways, even if her eggs aren’t the color you expected. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any further questions or if there’s anything we can do to help.

We got A pair of these two years ago. They are great layers. One had a pink face and one had a black face. Both are amazing egg layers. One gets broody now and then, but it isn’t a problem. I would gladly have a whole flock of these, for their egg, laying abilities, beauty, and personality!

My little Heidi is the cutest. Very sweet and demure, yet protective of her friends! She's NOT a loner, she screams when she's lost from her friends. She hasn't started laying yet - at what age do they start to lay? She's 6 months old now.

pretty expensive for chickens that lay the same size and color as a normal silkie.

This is such a great Silkie mix. My hens have the sweetness of a Silkie but lay a beautiful blue egg. They fit into my flock very well.
