Baby Chicks: Black/Lavender Split Orpington Female Reviews

Stormy is by far my favorite girl. Sweet, smart, lays extra large light brown eggs and gets along with everyone…including the dogs. Orpingtons have always been one of my favorites and some are friendlier than others, just like people.

Mine is mean. Loved my buff Orpington that I wanted other Orpingtons in different colors thinking they’d have the same sweet personality. Not so. Beautiful looking hen but constantly bites me.

Brigid and Moira were born the end of March and started laying brown eggs about every other day the beginning of September, one of them laying a light brown with dark brown speckles. Moira is the self-appointed Head Hen, and has looked out for the other seven since she was a couple weeks old. They have gorgeous feathers that are iridescent towards the tips, especially around their shoulders and tails. They're pretty quiet, and don't mind being handled. Brigid is especially fond of our boxer mix.

I purchased 4 Black/Lavender Split Orpingtons (1 was an intentional male) and 4 Lavender Orpingtons. They arrived a day late (according to tracking). I picked them up right away and could hear the chirps in the Post Office. All the chirps on the drive home assured they were doing well. I could feel like the heater pack in the box when I got home. We live in Maryland and it was mid-March. I like that the cockerel was sporting a manly blue leg band. 3 days of being home (5 days post hatch) and all seem to be doing well. They love eating and chasing each other around. They are slowly warming up to humans.

I love my buff Orpington so much that I had to try a black Orpington. She doesn’t disappoint. Phoebe is so sweet, fun and inquisitive. She’s 6 weeks old and is beautiful. She runs up to me and now even jumps onto my lap. She was a bit shy at first but is really warming up to me.

Our black lavender is so stinking sweet! Doesn’t mind being picked up. Will just sit on my daughter’s lap and actually loves the attention. She is only 2 weeks old but is feathering nicely. At first she was the smallest of our crew so we called her little little nugget. She has since caught up to her sisters. Love this little girl.

Hi I realized I actually gave 3 Black Orpingtons now that they are feathering out well in the 3rd week. Plus they all stick together! Lol plus the 3 of them come running to greet me everytime I approach to check on them all. All the other chicks stay in the back skittish especially the Blue And the lavender Orpington ! Tho the lavender will come forward and isn’t as “chicken” lol as the rest! But one thing is for sure! They have big beautiful eyes!! They are definitely worth every penny! I can only imagine once they are all feathered in! I can see they will good hens! Btw! One is a rooster that I picked .. so even he is a good Blk Orpington boy!!! Extremely happy customer here!! I’m gonna order more next spring of all 3 variety of Orpingtons!
