Cozy Coop Heater Reviews

Got this for my roost for especially cold nights that we've had in PA recently. I'm not sure it give off the amount of heat I expected, even for a small roost. Perhaps it isn't working properly. I got another ceramic heater with a shield on it as a supplement. Together they seem to do okay. Chickens are still laying mostly an egg a day even in the super cold. So I guess they are happy. Meal worms, sprouted oats and extra scratch grains don't hurt either, I guess.

These heaters work really nice for my parrot and love birds. You can position them just right on top of the cages with the mount so they don't move around. They give just the right amount of heat to keep them nice and warm. I will purchase 2 more for my dogs.

In Nyack, NY - we just had unbelievable cold snap for 4 weeks, 20 degrees F during the days, -2 F to 5 F at nights. The truth is that the chickens did fine down to about 20 degrees F (minus 5 to minus 10 Celsius) But down around -5 F/-20 C they were visibly weakened, didn't want to come out, and my birds are 2 years old so they were going through winter molt. They looked cold. I have a 8 x10 x 8 coop with good ventilation but it is HUGE for 6 birds. The roof has a ridge vent and there are high open windows with mesh. The bottom line is I resisted adding supplemental heat and I may have lost my favorite bird because of it. So I researched what could be done in a safe and subtle way and I spoke with some Vermont chicken keepers, and there is a product that is a "heat panel" it has two settings, 100w and 200w, and can be used with a Thermo-Cube at 35 degrees F. I mounted it about 16 inches under the roost bar out of reach. It is designed to have chickens up directly against it and there is no perceptible heat coming off it at 100 watts, It has a zero clearance to combustible design therefore in theory it cannot set anything on fire, and I use sand in my chicken coop anyway so no wood shavings. IT WORKS, it added exactly what I needed: Last night the high of the day was 40 degrees F but the temps were dropping to 18 degrees F by 3 am So I set the panel on 100w and it kept the coop at 30 degrees all night. I have an Acu-Rite thermometer/transmitter that transmits the temperature and also records the Low/High and it resettable every day. The transmitter is installed about 12 inches above my top roost bar. Also the Thermo Cube/heat panel plug is installed in the far high corner of the coop well away so it is not affected by the heat produced. This setup is very good. I am pleased that even if the heat system broke it wouldn't be such a shock because it is supplementing so little heat. Also I have LED holiday lights on the outside on my coop plugged into the same heat circuit -- so If the lights are on, the electricity is active. (I could plug these into the Thermo Cube if I wanted or just in the power strip to know that the breaker is working.) Anyway here are the items I found useful: AcuRite 00611A3 Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer and Humidity Sensor, Farm Innovators Model TC-3 Cold Weather Thermo Cube Thermostatically Controlled Outlet - On at 35-Degrees/Off at 45-Degrees, Cozy Products Safe Chicken Coop Pet Heater 200W Flat Panel Technology, One Size, Black

On level one, kept our coop about 5* warmer than outside. On level two, kept our coop about 10* warmer than outside. We only used when the outside temperatures were below zero. So far all 9 of our flock have survived temps down to -25* in our 6’x8’ coop.

I received this warming station during an extreme cold snap. My highs never went above zero for a few weeks. The product was hung in my coop and offered the birds a place to warm up. Worked well. The packing to protect the product was awful. No cushioning whatsoever. Box looked like it had been run over. Had I not needed the product I would have returned it. How do I know if the longevity of use will be affected by improper packaging and handling? I believe this Company offers quality. I was disappointed to see this.

If you live in a really cold area. You might need a few of these to keep your chickens comfortable. I live in Los Angeles, so one is perfect for my 4 girls. I just it it on when the temperature falls below 55 at night.
