Baby Chicks: Dominique Female Reviews

4.7 Rating 30 Reviews
Out of the 10 chicks we purchased, Hei Hei is probably the least smart, and kind of a jerk in a funny way. She seems pretty happy about it- ignorance is bliss as they say. She likes to be around you/around the other birds, she jumps on their backs and gets everyone all upset- I think she might just be terrible at landing next to the other chickens, she just jumps where everyone else is, instead! She definitely doesn't want you to pet or touch or hold her, she just wants to be around where everyone else is. She's pretty low on the hierarchy, but doesn't seem to mind. When someone pokes her, she backs off, then comes right back to doing whatever she was doing again. Kind of unflappable, really. Seems pretty happy and healthy. Only 3.5 months in. She's pretty silly, but I probably wouldn't get one again since I wanted friendly chickens and the Barred Plymouth Rock I got is a lot more friendly and looks similar.

We ordered 4 different chick breeds from My Pet Chicken (Buff Orpington, Silked white Easter Egger, Speckled Sussex, and a Dominique). While we are in love with all our chickees and all are friendly.... Ruby, our Dominique, is something special. She loves sitting in laps! My 4 and 7 year old both love to hold her. She will flop down in their lap and stretch out her neck for a nap or she’ll settle in for a roost on their shoulder. Very precious. She is now 6weeks old so we haven’t gotten to adulthood and laying yet so I can’t comment there. She’s feathering in beautifully... love the black and white. So glad my daughter’s 1st grade teacher recommended this breed!

We ordered 6 chicks, 3 Dominique Sparkle, Sophia, and Dorothy are so sweet and friendly! They share a coop with 3 Golden Laced Wyandottes Goldie, Rose and Blanche Dominiques are the most lovable of the 6 when they hear my car, they run to the gate when I pull up, they welcome me home with as much enthusiasm as my two Min Pins! ^_^ I love these girls, they escort me around the yard while doing yard work, are constantly 'helping' with the weeding and raking. They wait at the back door for meal worm treats, will walk straight into the house if you are not careful to close the door! Not recommended as they tend to not care about clean floors lol No eggs yet, they are 21 weeks old today so we are keeping a close watch on the nesting boxes! So happy with our Dominique girls.

At the last minute we had to pick a different breed bc there wasnt enough Easter Eggers . My son did some quick research and came up w getting a Dominique hen. Our Dominique is now 1 week old. She is the spunkiest, smartest most lovable of all the "friendly" breeds we ordered. By 3 days old she was running up my arm to sit on my shoulder. She wants to follow us everywhere. All 3 of our other chicks copy off of her. Can't wait to enjoy her loving character in the years to come. Thank you My Pet Chicken!

We originally wanted to try a barred rock with our order, but MPC was sold out of those. So, we went with the Dominique breed. She is by far the sweetest in our flock. She has turned into our lap chicken and is great with the kids! I will always have a Dominique in our flock!

This is my first set of baby chicks. I was drawn to the Easter eggers and got those along with two red stars and 2 Dominique. I have to say I am in love with this breed. Two weeks in and they are the sweetest and most friendly of the bunch. Hopefully they will both stay that way.
