Baby Chicks: Partridge Olive Egger Female Reviews

4.3 Rating 90 Reviews
Miss Edith was a sweet little sensy floof, the smallest of my flock of 6. She was an adorable little chipmunk chick with a line perfectly over her eye. She got pecked in the eye day 3 and she kept it shut for the first few weeks. Since then, she’s healed up well, but she still closes her eye out of nervousness when another lady gets too close. Her nickname is Popeye! But that doesn’t stop her if treats are involved, she is not afraid to push the other ladies out of the way! She has a beautiful mixed array of feathers, with gold around her neck, a reddish brown chest & wings, and a muted grey body. She has a little mohawk, a big bright red semi-floppy comb, & skinny like a road runner with a fluffy grey butt- definitely my funkiest chicken. My husband says every day that she is the prettiest lady in our flock! She just laid a beautiful light sage green egg and didn’t even have a peep to say about it! This whole time I thought my Olive egger Vera was laying, it was actually Edith my POE! Hatched 6/12 & started laying 10/31. POE layed a sage green & my Olive egger Vera layed a deep olive with speckles 11/5. So happy with these happy healthy ladies! Thank you MPC !!

Just three days old today (9/27) and my little pair, Peaches and Herb, are already growing, jumping on top of their brooder heater, climbing their stairs. No idea which one’s which yet as they look almost exactly alike. Beautiful chicks! Bursting with health. Great job, guys!

Ordered 3 chicks and all arrived safe and healthy! They’re all doing great so far. My partridge olive Egger is friendly and starting to show her little personality at 1 week old.

Although I am not 100% sure which chick is the Cream Legbar and which is the Partridge Olive Egger, I believe our little Astrid (darker and smaller) is the CL and Chesnut (brown and larger) is the POE. Both are awesome. Astrid is the second smallest chick of seven and is incredibly smart. While the others announce it when they get a morsel of a treat, she grabs and then quickly and quietly goes off by herself to eat. Her BFF's are Chestnut and Spot, who are both much more assertive. Spot (the Barred Rock) makes sure that Astrid gets everything she needs. Chesnut is also very sisterly. She is our most coordinated chick. Always the first to try out new features in the brooder. By day seven she was flying onto a perch I put in there for them. Both are happy, healthy, and wonderful.

We ordered a bunch of chicks with a March hatch date, including one partridge olive egger. We chose our breeds very carefully as we can only have a limited number where we live. This was to be our one green egg layer plus we love how they look. Within a few weeks, our chick didn't seem to look like a partridge olive egger. It became quite clear within a few months that we did not receive the chick we purchased. Instead of a green egg-laying, partridge olive egger, we were sent a brown leghorn that lays white eggs. Not at all what we asked for and I'm not sure how this mistake could have even happened. While MPC was very helpful and refunded the cost of this one bird, we now have a breed we didn't want. Of course we adore her but really wanted a green layer. Even if we gave her away, we would only have room for one more bird and we couldn't order and raise a single chick alone only to have to go into a larger flock with older girls. That just wouldn't be safe. So we will have to wait a few years until space opens up and order several chicks. Just hoping we get the ones we paid for.
