“I really really really love this heater. I am so tired of cracking the ice every morning. Granted, I live in NC, so we only have a certain number of icy mornings, but we've had several days (over 9) this year that were way below zero. And plenty of nights that were close to zero. And all of those mornings I have to go out and get the ice off the water for the girls. But no more!!! I use rubber or plastic black bowls from a feed supply store for water in the winter (the nipple and cup waterers just freeze). Then I plug in these bad boys and sit back, because they keep the water thawed even at 8 degrees. I have bowls that range from 1/2-3 gallons, and all are liquid every morning. Changed. My. Life.”
“Our winters are mostly below freezing the whole time, with some below zero periods mixed in. It does okay below freezing, but only in a straight bucket of water, any attachments (cups or nipples, like we use because we have ducks too) will not stay flowing. Below zero it couldn't keep the bucket liquid all the way. Crusts formed and the chickens aren't strong enough to break it, or otherwise didn't, so we just had to take out hot water to them several times a day, so they weren't left without.”
“Had to replace bucket heater with a smaller low pan. Due to sub zero temps. bucket froze on top except for small hole in the middle. Replacing with a lower pan solve the problem”
