Baby Chicks: Lavender Ameraucana Female Reviews

4.7 Rating 34 Reviews
Purchased for blue eggs, fell in love with their personalties. I’m a first time chicken keeper and I thought I wanted a flock of fluffy silkies and on a whim later added some Lavender Ameraucanas to the flock. Our silkies were about a month old when we got our Ameraucana chicks. I love my silkies, but not half as much as I love these hilarious Ameraucanas. They were rough and tumble as chicks, bowling each other over to get to the scratch first. A little skittish around us the first few weeks and I wasn’t convinced at first that I loved them, but that changed quickly. We called them the little linebackers for the first month, lol. They are almost two months old now and they literally have the sweetest deposition. They are the first out of the coop in the mornings (still knocking each other out of the way to be the first one out). They will come running up to the run door to greet you. And if I find half an hour in the day to go and sit with them, they fight for who gets to sit in my lap (they all eventually win). They are like little puppies, but so much better. As far as appearance I think the lavender color is unique. It’s almost a bluish gray in person. Some have pink beaks and some solid black (that’s the only way we can tell them apart, besides personality and all of them have lots of that). They all have soft gray inquisitive eyes. I have never gone into the coop without one of them making me laugh. Well worth the investment and I hope they live a very long time because we adore them. Best purchase I have made all year!

Chicks arrived happy and healthy on Tuesday morning after shipping Monday Afternoon. Box was safely packed with extra padding up the sides to keep such a small order safe from bumps (only 5 chicks) and everyone did great after arrival. They're almost two weeks old and still doing amazing, everyone is correctly colored with nice puffy baby cheeks/beards and I'm excited to see them get bigger!

We have a beautiful lavender Ameracauna from MPC last year and she lays a sage green egg. I thought for sure it would be blue with this breed. She is lovely though. Trying a cream legbar this year she hasn’t begun to lay yet.

Thank you for reaching out! We do disclose that Lavender Ameraucanas will lay pretty, light blue to greenish blue eggs in the breed description on their page, so it is possible to get green eggs with a true Lavender Ameraucana. Cream Legbars do lay a light blue egg, so I think you'll really enjoy having both these beautiful breeds!

Alala, our Lavender Ameraucana chick, is a lady. She seems solidly middle of the flock--gentle and kind to all, but not a pushover. She's very similar in temperament to our Wheaten Marans chick, Shelly. Alala is a wonderful snuggler and very friendly. I think she's a good candidate for a lap chicken. We are thrilled with all our baby chicks (seven, all different breeds) from MPC. I can't say I have a favorite, though I have a tender spot for Alala. I highly recommend MPC. All chicks arrived happy and healthy within 24 hours. They are friendly and sweet and have nearly doubled in size in their first week.

was ok with the switch but the lavender has passed already. Her and the silkie never grew like the other. They both eat and drink and play. No pasty butt, I just woke up and the lavender was gone. Hopefully, the silkie does ok.
