What a beautiful photo of your new Houdan chick! Thank you for sharing this and your comments regarding her chatty little self! They can make up for the smaller stature with very big personalities and we hope you enjoy her for many years to come.

I was surprised to find these are slightly aggressive, not starting fights but super flighty and they pecked all the head feathers out of my other Polish to the point I separated them. These will have to stay with the larger chickens for the safety of the Silkies.

My sweet baby houdini is the smallest chick of the bunch, and very clearly the runt of the group. At 2 weeks she is half the size of my polish, and still is about the size she was at 1 week, now at 2.5 weeks. BUT, she is really sweet, curious, a great eater and drinker, her feathers are growing in, and she doesn't get bullied at all (I have actually seen her shove everyone out of the way to get something she wants) She is a bit timid, but she has really started to get more social! She just started flying up to my hand since her wings are fully feathered! My main concern is keeping her fed and healthy, and I am hoping she fills out more in her 3rd & 4th week, but I don't mind her being small if she is healthy!

Goose is the Greatest. If you are looking for a fantastic 'pet' chicken, Houdans absolutely fit the bill. I have many different breeds in my flock, and my Mottled Houdan is one of the friendliest chickens I have ever had! She's insane - she'll literally jump up into my arms and crawl up onto my hat all the time. As my partner pointed out, she doesn't even 'flinch' when you reach down to pet her, she's truly the most wonderful bird. Not only is she great with people, she's a fantastic flock member. She minds her own business and never bullies the others. Additionally, she's gorgeous. The photos displayed do not do this breed justice. Goose is very evenly white and black, and her crest is full and beautiful, but shaped in a way that doesn't impede her vision! A great breed for beginners and children would absolutely adore her. Thank you, My Pet Chicken, for offering such a fantastic chickie!

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with your Mottled Houdan. We love hearing how these birds settle right into a flock and win everyone over with their charm. It sounds like Goose has decided that you are her personal jungle gym, which is exactly the kind of character this breed is known for. Pictures can only do so much to give people an idea of a bird will look but your review lets people know what to truly expect! It is wonderful to know she brings joy to both you and the rest of the flock. We appreciate you choosing My Pet Chicken for your new addition. It means a lot to hear that she has become such a standout companion and if you ever need support as she grows, we are here and ready to help.

I ordered 25 baby chickies and they arrived on Thursday all are doing great. No posts butt. No lethargy, all running around. One of my new babies is the melted houdon, so adorable can't wait to see her crazy hair feathers come in! 3 chicks ordered did not hatch but my pet chicken replaced all 3 with my picks even though the ones I picked were more in value than the ones that didn't hatch which I did not expect. There was also an extra baby as well! All of them are so cute and happy and healthy will recommend to anyone wanting to order chickens!

Your little Mottled Houdan is going to be such a character once those fluffy head feathers start coming in — they’re always a favorite. My Mottled Houdan is one of the cuddliest chickens I have ever had! She is so pretty. Every time she molts her white spots grow. Her crest and beard are never so big to block her site. She has the silliest personality. She does go broody every summer but it isn’t impossible to snap her out of it. I can’t believe this breed isn’t more popular. Whenever I sit down in the chicken yard she runs at full speed to get a place on my lap. She just turned 3 and is very healthy. She’s lower on the pecking order. Even my Salmon Faverolles looks at her like she’s crazy! My flock lets her do her own thing though and nobody gives her any trouble. Her name is Dottie Le Pew, being French and all.
