When I bought my double arm repair stand, I was having trouble deciding whether just to bolt the stand to my shop floor, or buying the base. The base has a pretty hefty price tag, but I am now very glad that I bought it. The base is very very heavy. It arrives in a flat cardboard box that doesn’t look like it would be that big of deal to carry, but don’t make the mistake of forgetting to lift with your legs, as you will regret it! The things that I like about this base are: 1) it is not very thick, so it is not a trip hazard; 2) it has a big foot print, so once it is bolted to the repair stand, the stand becomes very stable, even with two bikes; and 3) it is moveable, although with some effort. Being moveable is a big plus, as even though it is very stable and very heavy, you can tilt it by leveraging with the repair stand, and then move it without having to lift it. In my case, that was a big advantage as I wanted to play around with the distance I wanted it from my work bench, and so it made fine tuning the distance easy, which would have been very difficult to do if I had bolted it to the floor. So although the base is expensive, it is worth the money. As a side note, you may want to glue some outdoor carpet to the bottom. I have a concrete painted floor in my shop, and so it slides fine without the carpet, but a piece of indoor carpet would probably help save getting a scratch in your floor surface if you are concerned about that.
