Onion Jam (Relish)A savoury pantry hero with a soft heart and a sharp wit.
Affectionately known as “onion jam” across Aussie country kitchens, this rich, sticky relish has reached near cult status in regional Australia. Technically, it’s a relish—but nobody calls it that. It’s a staple of farmhouse cheeseboards, Sunday pub burgers, and grandad’s toasties—and one of those comforting condiments you’ll never want to be without.
Slow-cooked onions are lifted with malt vinegar, mellowed with brown sugar, and rounded out with mustard powder, rosemary, thyme and a gentle scattering of nigella and yellow mustard seeds. The result? Rich, herby and just tangy enough to keep things interesting—a classic condiment with a devoted following.
Spoon onto steak sandwiches, sausage rolls or burgers for an instant upgrade Pair with goat cheese on grilled toast or crackers for a café-worthy bite. Learn more about flavour pairings like this in our Ultimate Guide to Pairing Preserves with Cheese Stir through lentils, mashed potatoes, or savoury tarts for midweek comfort or glaze roasted pumpkin, slather over pork chops, or tuck into melty toasties for fast flavour magic.
Handcrafted in small batches along the Murray River in Echuca–Moama, using 100% Australian-grown produce. Gluten-free. Vegan-friendly. All natural. A savoury jam with a little spark—comfort food, elevated.

It's very hard to get a good onion relish or jam - I'm a bit skeptical because they are either full of chilli or pepper or are a sloppy sweet goo- Not Quincey Jones though it a perfect balance of umami and subtle sweetness that works with meats and cheeses or is yummy on sourdough toast - This wil be becoming a staple in our household
