How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? It was fantastic! It was interesting to see how everyone supported the first viewpoint that was presented. Then, when given a second viewpoint, they changed their minds... and back and forth until they were forced to amalgamate all of their ideas and come
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? It was the perfect way to introduce the idea of multiple viewpoints, without seeming biased one way or another. I would like to use this concept in future, as it really opens the mind!
This was an awesome unit - the students loved the story and the mysterious aspects of having sixteen different perspectives on one day. It took them a while to get their heads around it (as did I!) but once we'd unpacked it everyone was really engaged. The objects were a fantastic hook.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? We discussed that that a narrative doesn’t just say what happened, it says why it was important, what it means for who the person is, for who they’ll become, and for what happens next. The narrative becomes a form of identity. Whether fictional or nonfict
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? I was worried that talking about the hostilities and terrible violence that has taken place in the past, would stir up bad feelings. But I think we need to be aware of the various perspectives on what took place in our history to understand how people's c
I did this with my Year 4 class of nine and 10 year olds. We loved creating our own museum display of artefacts from the Endeavour. We read the book 'The Adventures of Tupaia' alongside the kit. Children enjoyed working out on the map where to place their stickers to indicate where each of the characters were on 9th November 1769. When I asked my class what they learned from this experience and what they most enjoyed, I think that aspects of weaving together the different perspectives was beyond many of them. What they most enjoyed was learning about Tupaia's journey travelling with Captain Cook on his discovery of New Zealand. It was fantastic when I played the video from the museum curator and we were so excited when the artefacts arrived. Children sent invitations to parents and other classes to visit our exhibition. Oh, and they loved sampling the carrot marmalade. Thank you for a great school kit. Much appreciated.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? It helped a lot. As mentioned above, students could link in their own life experiences. Some students have very little knowledge about NZ history, so content wise this was also helpful.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? No change in perspective, but now have more good quality resources.
A real conversation starter. Students were able to have sophisticated discussions about not only this event, but other events in their own life.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? This was a fantastic way of teaching children about perspective. It really made them think carefully about things that happened in the past as well as things that happen to us and other people everyday.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? This has got me motivated to learn more about NZ history and motivated to teach more of it in class.
This kit was great! Very high interest and really got the children talking and collaborating. My class loved the character cards and the items we received for each character. When displayed on the wall they often were found looking at the display and talking about it with their peers. Unfortunately due to lockdown and moving classrooms due to our school getting new buildings we were unable to have our exhibition but this is something we will be continuing to work towards next term. Would love to do this kit again at some stage with another class. Thanks so much School Kit!

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? This kit gave students the opportunity to work and learn together. The understanding that there is always more than one side to a story is key learning both when examining the history of our country but also in their own lives.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? While we always teach NZ history at the beginning of the year this unit gave me the opportunity to reflect on this and think about how to teach this to my class more effectively.
Great resources which we will be able to use yearly. The ability to give students the opportunity to see events from differing perspectives was key to the success of this learning

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? We used this as a model when we had an incident at school where someone ate someones else's pie from the warmer. We used a time line and recorded where everyone was and what they were doing. It turned out our principal had eaten the pie which was an unexp
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? It was great to approach this topic looking at the perspectives of all involved (maori, european, tahitian) and for children to see there can be more than one telling of a story depending on who/where you were. This linked in so well to explanations of th

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? Good. Although they found the timeline difficult as there was lots of crossing over of times between characters.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? Was great lesson to teach different perspectives of people. It taught me to look at two sides of the story.
My students really liked the practical side of putting stickers on the maps. They also liked the items that went with each character as it was tangible to them. Not all students got to create a museum exhibition due to high numbers in class.
