How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? Students became more aware of each other and were able to interact more positively with each other.
This resource was great and really got my students thinking about their own background and their classmates backgrounds.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? At this stage, I am planning to use the action plan for future classrooms - however, I can see how effective the action plan would be.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? For the students involved, they have become more aware of they way they speak to each other, and think about people from different backgrounds and cultures. They were very confident presenting their new found ideas to the community, and I feel their exper
I chose to utilise the kit with a small group this year - and it fit really well with our inquiry at the time. Our school was involved in an Art exhibition, where students inquired into a specific topic/issue. As the students had chosen racism, the kit really strengthened their knowledge and thinking around said issue. The outcome was a wonderfully presented art piece, made of news headlines about racism. There were resources students utilised from the kit to get their audience thinking and engaged into their exhibition.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? I will be using this again at the start of the new school year, emphasising pronouncing names correctly, helping children understand their own identity and celebrating everyone in their classes identity. I will also be using the ";What I want my teacher t
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? Children seem to become a more cohesive unit, they look out for each other and stood up for things that they thought were wrong.
This kit was amazing. It really challenged my thinking alongside my students. It opened our eyes to how we act and how our actions, words and attitudes can affect others.

I adapted a few of the resources to fit with Health and Inquiry studies. The detail with the planning is always useful and deepens on planning. The games and resources are always high quality. The Teachers journal was valuable to give me time to think about the issues. I have slotted activities in over a long period of time - and even after several months break, brought back the topic of discrimination to further build on learning.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? We used the action plan to think about how our existing class culture and Treaty could be improved as we go into 2020, and what might change and what we might keep the same.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? It probably had more impact for me to be fair, I enjoyed the journal, and it made the journey very reflective. Discussion is always good and helps to keep us all honest!
My students and I enjoyed using aspects of this kit. I read some picture books about Racism as the ignition for this kit. We are a very diverse faith based school, and therefore a lot of the discussions around racism are very much part of who we are. We will use this again at the start of 2020 because we could see how elements of our existing class treaty could be enhanced. We used old posters, and did a compare and contrast from when they were created in 2004, and created new ones to get our messages out there. Another excellent resource, thank you SchoolKit.

I was blown away when I opened the box - stickers, compliments sheets - all kinds of treasures! I downloaded the teacher sheet and then I wondered how it all fitted together. Where was I to start? Did I photocopy parts of the teacher journal for the class to consider. To be honest, it was an amazing treasure trove of materials, but how to access it and fit it all together was a bit of a mystery to me and not particularly user friendly for a teacher trying to keep her head above water. We loved using the compliments sheets and the children loved doing that. We displayed the action cards - those that we felt we were good at, and ones that we were still to work on - turning them over as we feel we achieved them. What it did lead into was a slightly different direction - we took a tangent and decided on how we could 'Be the Change' in the world this term and the children came up with a variety of actions they could take to make the world a better place. We have organised a beach clean up (on the weekend! With their parents), we have taken up a big food bank collection and asked others to support it, we have organised to visit a Retirement Village and sing and talk to the residents. So thanks for lighting that spark!

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? We looked more in depth at ethnic beliefs of those in our community and the similarities/differences in comparison to students own ethnicity. This unit highlighted the need for students to be open-minded and find out about different cultures/ethnicities
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? We developed a greater understanding of what is acceptable/unacceptable language when finding the right words to talk about the different ethnic identities in our classroom.
We thoroughly enjoyed taking part in this unit of inquiry; it followed nicely on from Tuia 250. We had already looked at our own and others cultures &; cultural practices in Term 1 but this got us thinking about the challenges some face as well as some assumptions made about culture/race.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? The learners began to think on a whole new level, they began to have conversations about each other's culture and to see what diversity really meant. They became curious and wanted to know more about each other, thegan to teach each other the different la
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? It gave us greater understanding, we think it is already there, but when you unpack it with tasks like these you can see the misconceptions children have and help them to move forward in their understanding.
A great concept that helped us unpack what it means to be different and how it's okay to be different. One of our favourite quotes that we linked was - I wouldn't change you for the wold but I would change the world for you. The learners really unpacked this idea and came tho their own understanding of what this meant. They were able to see this clearly when we completed the divertisty disks.
