What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? The action plan was great! It was so good to let the kids led direction that this activity took. They felt really empowered and as a result were really keen to see us achieve our goals.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? The impact of the kit was one of awareness. I believe these children will no longer let “racism” just occur. They will challenge a statement now, or challenge the way something is presented if they do not believe that it is equitable.
This was such a fantastic kit! It was so eye opening for me as a teacher. The stereotype pictionary and the “I wish my teacher knew …” activity were real eye openers. The “I wish my teacher knew …” activity was particularly heartbreaking. My kids are dealing with adult worries and stresses - and I wouldn’t have known. It was also great to look at the casual racism that happens in my own environment and how I respond to it. Thank you so much for making such a “touchy” subject easy to discuss and even easier to make accessible to kids.

How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? I look forward to using many of these discussion topics earlier in the class next year to create an empathetic, supportive environment for the class to learn together in. The environment didn't change markedly as they were already pretty coool - but I th
The kit was thoroughly researched and provided thought provoking resources and discussion opportunities. The journal provided for the educator to unpick their own thinking was especially useful. The timeline to do this personal deep thinking before teaching the unit was shorter than I would have preferred. It was not material you could whip through quickly. I very much enjoyed having my own thinking and norms challenged and believe that this helped me teach the topic more deeply and empathetically

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? My students chose to focus on giving genuine compliments, ensuring students have reading material in the own languages, finding out why our families came to New Zealand, and ensuring that no racist vocabulary is being used.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? Students really made the most of putting themselves in the shoes of others, challenging stereotypes, and making others feel welcome. We live in a largely pakeha community, so it was nice for our immigrant students to have a chance to have their voices hea
It was really great to be able to challenge the students' perceptions of our community views and values. Thinking about how our thoughts, beliefs, and actions affect others was really needed in our classroom this term, so it was nice to have this conversation facilitated by this kit.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? We now have the confidence to pull others up if they say something disrespectful about someone else.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? We now follow the motto ";give nothing to racism";. We know that we should never make a joke or negative comment about someones identity - their culture, race, ethnicity or heritage.
Thanks for an engaging kit. The class enjoyed challenging their beliefs and learning of the effect of what we say. Our school had our Cultural Week last week, where the children's learning was put into context by learning about all of our cultures and what makes our diversity so special.

Nothing wrong with the kit but I just didn't find it suited the makeup of my class which isnt very multicultural. Having worked in Auckland and more multicultural environments, I can see how this would bring out some amazing conversations.

The kit tied in well with our conceptual inquiry into how New Zealand has changed over time. Relevant and thought provoking experiences which challenged us all, and forced us to consider our own attitudes towards cultural difference. An absolute favourite school kit. Thank you!

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? This has resulted in a heightened sense of awareness for our students. It was interesting, the thing that became the biggest discussion was the impact that stereotyping has, particularly on girls. Lead us through a lot of interesting discussion.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? The students involved became more aware of the diversity of our class and the different expectations we have on one and other. They became more compassionate towards each others situations and I think less judgemental and accepting.
An outstanding kit that provided lots of opportunity for discussion.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? Really positive. The language the kids are using and the heightened awareness of what racism and stereotypes can look like have made everyone act. We give nothing to racsim, sexism and every other stereotype we think of.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? We were already aware that the world doesn't always match what we think it does so it increased awareness and improved the courage to act against stereotypes.
The activities were a great way to raise awareness of stereotyping and the potential of racism.
