How have the components within the kit helped develop your student self-confidence? This isn't due to the kit, but due to the time factor involved in me working out how to use the kit effectively, and not actually having the time to do this.

How have the components of the kit helped develop Student-Teacher communication? Again, not because of the kit, but because I didn't have the time to work out how the kit worked, how to teach it and therefore didn't use it as it was intended.

“This kit looked fantastic, but unfortunetly I found understanding what was needed and how to teach it was difficult to follow and ultimately I didn't have the time to spend trying to work it out. I used the resources as a resource for my kids, who enjoyed being able to read the cards and have a space to express how they were feeling. The parents that did fill in the letter wrote really beautiful and significant things for their children.”

“Apologies for not corresponding sooner. I had planned to cover this My Self Confidence kit in term 2 however we had a particularly difficult situation to deal with that term, therefore I pushed it to term 3, and of course covid struck. I'm really hoping we return to the classroom next term and therefore complete the kit, as it's contents are perfect for the situation we find ourselves in.”

Before doing this unit, our class had a lot of type A personalities, however, a lot of very quiet students who didn't speak up for themselves. This set of activities definitely helped with this!

How have the components of the kit helped develop Student-Teacher communication? I’m not sure this has improved as I have strong relationships with tamariki. It may have helped some of the less confident students.

How have the components within the kit helped develop your student self-confidence? Confidence has grown immensely throughout my whole class. Especially with the boys. We are all comfortable talking about our feelings and situations that arise and we know the expectations through using this kit to help self-regulate.

How have the components of the kit helped develop Student-Teacher communication? This kit has provided a great opportunity for teacher - student and student - student connections. It has opened up our classroom conversations and provided safe zone for any touchy areas.

“This kit has been great for all my class members but especially my boys who need help with self-regulating. They were reluctant to begin with whereas now it is a main highlight of theirs. The kit comes with everything which is amazing, good quality and well thought out design for the classroom use.”

How have the components of the kit helped develop Student-Teacher communication? There was some development of student teacher communication through the daily check in and discussions. Again this routine was not followed through as students grew bored quickly.

“The kit had some great looking resources and wall display. Students were interested at the beginning but quickly got bored of the routine and complexity of some information.”

How have the components within the kit helped develop your student self-confidence? They are learning to be honest with themselves about their emotions and give themselves a better understanding of themselves.

How have the components of the kit helped develop Student-Teacher communication? It has been great so far. It has been useful to pick up on trends and be alerted to students who are able to hide their emotions well. It has provided an immediate starting point for communication. We will continue to use this kit to the end of the year.

“I started using this kit in Term Three. What an amazing resource! Very well thought out materials to form a strong foundation for students to recognise their emotions and use positive self-talk from the amber cards to help lift themselves out of that unhappy place. Students learn to help others through positive encouragement found on the green cards. The options on the red letters cover all possible options which makes this a suitable resource for schools in all areas and students in all schools. It has been a term of interruptions, therefore I will be using this kit with my class until the end of the year. We will do a Circle discussion of how the students have perceived this kit.”
