How has this kit helped develop your student's self confidence? It has also been interesting because it is my boys that have opened up the most, filling in the red cards and coming to speak to me one on one about some very private things

How has this kit impacted your class community during covid times? Anxiety has been high on the list this year for the students as has the ability to self regulate their behaviour. The kit has given them strategies to be able to cope with and deal with their feelings and emotions.

How has this kit helped develop Student-Teacher communication? As mentioned before it has really helped develop the confidence to speak to me about things they may not have done before. It has meant we have got closer and I we have both got a lot out of the conversations.

“This has been probably my most successful kit, mainly because it has allowed the students some autonomy on how they view themselves.. I especially enjoyed delving deeper into the 4 areas of care, respect etc.. and what these actually mean and look like in and out of the classroom. The visual impact of the kit was powerful in itself and although took a while to set up was great to have in my room. I just wish I’d had the time to do it earlier in the year. But we got there!”

How has this kit helped develop your student's self confidence? Kids have liked having the envelopes with tips and quotes to help them and reflection sheets when they needed to record their needs. The parent letters and task in their booklets gave them warm fuzzies.

How has this kit impacted your class community during covid times? After covid lockdowns it took a while to adjust back to the classroom and social interactions were sometimes challenging. This kit has helped to focus on positives and loving ourselves more.

How has this kit helped develop Student-Teacher communication? The charging station didn't overly take off in our room and not all kids want to share what's going on... especially if it is a home issue. They did share their ideas when discussing tasks from the booklets.

How has this kit impacted your class community during covid times? Well it took us 4 terms before we could actually do the kit. Our classroom community has become more self confident with asking questions and their own set values.

How has this kit helped develop Student-Teacher communication? My students went from using the box to talking to me directly. I have made copies of the slips so I can actually do this in term 1.

“The students have become more aware about themselves and their own feelings. They enjoyed interviewing people and having them see what others valued, some students mentioned that they had become more confident with themselves during that process and formed a strong set of values. This tool was also good for me. I was able to identify what my students needed in order to be more successful using the feelings box. It was amazing to have the students exposed to a system where they did not have to say anything , however, could still express themselves through a tick box.”

How has this kit impacted your class community during covid times? it helped them evaluate how they were feeling and think logically about the information they were hearing. It also taught them that one way to feel better is to do something kind for someone else. This is key to building empathy.
