What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? The story telling dice, poster and question cards were used regularly by my children - both led by me and in their own independent learning time.

How did you find the open format of this kit? It did take me a bit of time to get my head around it, as I am more of a linear planner - that is, I usually have a direction I am heading in. But I did like the way you can dip in and out of the resources.

“My class loved listening to the story and exploring the poster prompt. They enjoyed the question cards and spent a lot of time discussing the "Would you rather"type questions - some very interesting discussions came out! It took a bit of time for me to get my head around how this kind of kit works, but once I got into it and realised I could adapt it to fit how I wanted it to work, it didn't require much effort on my part to use it in the classroom. It's the type of kit you can plan intensively for, or just pull out in those moments where you need something extra. It's just a shame lockdown happened when it did!”

How did you find the open format of this kit? I can see how the open format of the kit would allow flex ability. However as my first experience with a school kit I found myself quite confused with how to use it. I did wonder if I would have used it more effectively if there was a set way to do so.

“This was my first school kit so I found it quite difficult to understand all the different parts and how they weaved together. In saying that the resources within were amazing. I loved the response dices and the map. I am disappointed that I didint get to use the kit to its full potential before the lock down but am excited to give this kit another try in the future as the resources are completely reusable. Awesome mahi school kit team!”

“This Kit has worked well in with our Under the Sea activity that we started after we came back from lock down. It can be used many ways and I have enjoyed using the dice for reading and the number disc for maths.”

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? We were able to link this kit to our inquiry last term even though it was cut short by Covid. We explored different elements of science through the kit and our inquiry. Something we hadn’t done before in my class

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? The website, dice, story cards were all useful for cross-curricular learning. We ended up using lots of the arts integrated into our story telling and discussions. It was also particularly good for lots of te reo integration.

How did you find the open format of this kit? It took me a little time to come to grips with different ways to use the kit. I probably would have enjoyed a little more guidance, but as I got thinking and using the kit, more ideas come to mind.

“My children responded really well to the exploration kit. The conversations we really interesting and it gave lots of opportunities for discussions about families and ancestors. Lots of these discussions spring-boarded into the children going home and asking questions about their families.”

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? the story telling dice were fabulous to grow oral language with my 5 year olds. They spent a long time exploring the big map up on the wall and we even used this as our writing provaction several times!
