What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? We enjoyed the celery experiment - this lead to me taking photo's of how we undertook the experiment - then the next day did a sequencing activity in groups to base our writing on. We also enjoyed the measuring out of the size of the whale. Great for pers

“I think my frame of mind influenced how I felt about this kit. I had planned to do it in the last 3 weeks of term - but Covid had other plans. Then I thought it would be a great way to settle up back into school again - but really my students just wanted to play and do all our favourite things we had missed while we were away - so I don't really feel like I've given the kit a good shot/haven't been able to get momentum going.”

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? We used the kit during writing and reading times to tell our stories orally to begin with and then write them. This has accompanied artwork to represent our maunga/moutain Mt Hutt/Opuke.

“This was a wonderful resource for our junior room. It dove-tailed beautifully into our yearly concept of 'Journeys' - we began the year looking at famous NZ explorers and their modes of transport. The School Kit was a relevant and unique way to look at the story-telling of our ancestors/whakapapa. The resources in the box were great, especially the big poster which our students studied often to find new things. We did our own story-telling about our families and created maunga/mountains to represent our family stories.”

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? It suited the way we deliver the currculum in our school, allowing for cross curricular links to be made especially across literacy, science and social sciences. We have not yet been able to put this in practice but intend to in Term 3 as explained above

“We were excited to use these kits in Term 2 and had booked a trip as part of our overarching theme "How can we share this planet?"to the Maritime museum which fitted in beautifully with the schoolkit exploring. However due to Covid-19 this has now been pushed back to the end of Term 3. We fully intend to use the school kit resource for cross curricular learning but in particular to support our literacy programme and our re scheduled visit to the Maritime museum.”
